The Nye Beach Writers' Series, a program of Writers On The Edge, Inc. has featured almost 300 authors since its monthly literary events began in June 1997. The Series is pure literary entertainment and showcases authors of diverse types of writing including fiction, nonfiction, plays,
songs, Oregon history, memoir, poetry, essays, and investigative journalism.

2008
 
April 26: CEIRIDWEN TERRILL, herbalist and assistant professor of environmental journalism at Concordia University. Author of Unnatural Landscapes: Tracking Invasive Species. Co-sponsored with Mountain Writers Series and Oregon League of Conservation Voters in celebration of Earth Day 2008. May 16-17: DOUG THOMPSON, author of Whales: Touching The Mystery. Weekend events co-sponsored with the Oregon Coast Aquarium and Mountain Writers Series.
     Friday evening, May 16: Welcoming Reception, Talk, film showing and book signing. Lobby of Oregon Coast Aquarium, 2820 SE Ferry Slip Road, in the South Beach area of Newport. 6:30 p.m. Admission: $5. Hors d’oeuvres with no host wine/beer.
     Saturday mid-day, May 17: Children’s Crafts and Whale Bio Facts, plus Book Signing with author Doug Thompson. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oregon Coast Aquarium.

July 19: DERRICK JENSEN, named 2006 Person of the Year by Press Action, and featured in the Americans Who Tell The Truth series. Author of six books including A Language Older than Words, and The Culture of Make Believe. His newest works are Endgame, Volume I: The Problem of Civilization and Endgame, Volume II: Resistance. 7 p.m. Special Location to accommodate larger audience: Hatfield Marine Science Center, Visitor's Center Auditorium. Admission: $10; free to students.
 
August 4 thru 8, and August 15: WRITE ON, WRITE NOW! Poetry Writing Workshop for youth aged 7 to 10. Workshop will explore language, poetry, photography, performance and personal story. Participants will be the featured authors at the August 16 Nye Beach Writers' Series, performing autobiographical poems in chant form. All participants receive full scholarships and free lunch.
