HAIKU INFERNO and FUTURE TENSE PRESS SHOWCASE OF WRITERS (featured June 5, 2004)

Haiku Inferno features KEVIN SAMPSELL (owner/publisher of Future Tense Books. Note: "Oregon's Quirkiest Press" was the winner of a 2003 Oregon Literary Fellowship for Publishers), and ELIZABETH MILLER , and FRAYN MASTERS .

HAIKU INFERNO is rapid-fire haiku, karate, absurdity, black clothes, push-ups and audience participation.   Haiku Inferno is a haiku performance group.   What we're trying to do is entertain people by stretching their expectations on what a haiku can be about or how it's presented. We do stick to the simple 5-7-5 rule of syllables but that's ok with our audience because it makes it more of a puzzle for them, in case they feel like counting syllables. Besides haiku, we also have other "diversions" that change from show to show, whether it be fake karate, audience participation, or meditating. I guess you could say there's a little bit of a sketch comedy aspect to it.

Also featured was a FUTURE TENSE PRESS SHOWCASE OF WRITERS :

BOB GAULKE (author of The Nervous Tourist)

JEMIAH JEFFERSON (author of St*rf*ck*ng)

ZOE TROPE (author of Please Don't Kill the Freshman )
