JUNE RUSHING, lead singer for the JUNE RUSHING QUINTET, has lived in the Pacific Northwest her entire life and comes form a large family of performers, including both parents, grandparent, aunts, uncles and cousins. Her roots are in country music and Germanic folk, as well as decades of training in jazz and classical music. She and her husband, Joren Rushing, have been performing together most Friday and Saturday nights for over a decade. June is now in the process of transitioning out of her day job in a medical office into a new life as a full-time singer and songwriter. June performed as the opening act of the March 2004 Nye Beach Writers' Series where she sang several original songs accompanied by Joren on guitar.
Joren Rushing says he played his first live concert in July 1966 and has "not been able to stop playing guitar ever since!" Joren has opened for and/or toured with Commander Cody, Big Brother & the Holding Company, Kingfish, Dinosaurs, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Robert Hunter, Merle Haggard, Ferlin Husky, Sam Andrews, Earl Thomas Connely and others. June and Joren's first CD release features the title track "Walker After Midnight," a song co-written by Joren Rushing and Robert Hunter. Copies of the CD will be available for sale.
The JUNE RUSHING QUINTET consists of June and Joren Rushing, plus Evans Longshore, Warren "Kooch" Kucera an award-winning blues harmonica player, and Robin Remaily, a member of the infamous Holy Modal Rounders, a group that still reconvenes sporadically. Remaily plays mandolin, fiddle, lap steel, quartro, and guitar.
